"In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity"
~ Albert Einstein ~
Read my story below to understand why this is one of my favorite quotes.
In May of 2019, the world was in the early stages of the COVID pandemic. The company I was working for had been hit very hard, and we had just gone through several series of layoffs, furloughs and downsizing.
I was working a hybrid in-office/at-home schedule and this particular day, I was in office for a meeting with my boss, the CEO.
I walked to his office and he said to me, "Let's walk over here and meet in the conference room". I didn't think anything of it, as we were doing our best to physically distance and the room was larger than his office, providing the 6' of space necessary to remain as safe as possible.
As I opened the door, I saw the VP of legal sitting there with "the folder" and instantly, I knew what was happening. One would think after everything that had been happening that I would have been prepared for this moment, but I have to admit, I wasn't. I was so focused on my work and the pandemic, I simply didn't bother to look up and see the writing on the wall.
I left that day and while I was in shock, I wasn't sad. Something inside me just knew there was something awaiting me on the other side.
For years I had been dreaming of going out on my own and leaning in to the work I truly love, which also meant stepping away from much of the work I was doing day to day. I had and have a passion for transformation and making workplaces and cultures the best they can be.
And so it began...the Business of HR was born and I haven't looked back!
